Joint Venture EFES VITANTA MOLDOVA BREWERY S.A. is legal successor to the first Moldovan industrial brewery established in this country in 1873. Nowadays the company is the largest manufacturer of beer and soft drinks in Moldova, controlling over 70% of the national beer market and 50% of the soft drinks market. In January 2003 the company joined the family of Efes Beverage Group – one of the largest beer corporations in Europe.
Since 2002 the company has been undergoing modernization and upgrading of its plant and equipment. Total investments in production equipment made during 2002–2003 have exceeded USD 8 million. The Company has scheduled to invest another USD 5 million before end of 2004 in order to complete modernization and expansion of its production facilities.
In 2003 the Company's total sales grew by 15% as compared to the 2002 level. Beer sales grew by 20%.
Joint Venture EFES VITANTA MOLDOVA BREWERY S.A. implements a large-scale social support program. The Company provides regular support to a number of sports events; it is the principal partner to Moldova's National Table Tennis Federation; it finances a number of scholarships in 13 Moldovan universities; it supports various cultural events and projects as well as social assistance projects to support disadvantaged and low income social groups. In June 2003 the Company became the principal partner to Moldova's National Olympic Committee in preparation of Moldova's national sports team to the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
