BASA-press News Agency

BASA-press is the first independent news agency in the Republic of Moldova.

It was founded on November 5, 1992, by a group of journalists. During the course of this period, the agency has gained the reputation of a competent, prompt and impartial source of information about the Republic of Moldova. The news covers all spectre of events - politics, economics, business, finance, sport and international events.

BASA-press now has more than 40 employees and three provincial branches (Balti, Tiraspol and Comrat).

Since its foundation, the agency has been releasing the "BASA-general news package" (political, economic and social news).

In April 1996, BASA-press becomes the reseller of the German news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) in Moldova. Daily, most important international news stories are translated and released to customers in Romanian, Russian and English as a separate news package, BASA-international.

Since October 1, 1997, the agency markets its third product, BASA-business, which is oriented to business people, bankers, investors.

On the occasion of its fifth anniversary on November 5, 1997, the agency launched the book "Un comentariu pe saptamina. Republica Moldova in comentariile Agentiei BASA-press (1992-1997)" (A commentary per week. The Republic of Moldova in the commentaries of BASA-press News Agency).

Since October 2000, the BASA-press news package splits into BASA-general (social-political news) and BASA-economic (economic news).

Also in November 2000, the agency goes online with its Web-site www.basa.md.

BASA news services are popular both in Moldova and abroad. Our customers are most newspapers and journals; foreign embassies and international bodies; the Government, the Parliament and the President; companies and banks.
