According to the InfoMarket Agency, petrol’s price grew by 1 leu – from 12.65 to 13.65 leis (Ai-95), diesel oil – by 0.8 leis – from 11.35 to 12.15 leis, liquified gas – by 0.5 lei – from 6.45 to 6.95 leis for a liter.

Some companies-importers still sell fuel at previous prices: Ai-98 – 13.05; Ai-95 – 12.65; Ai-76 – 11.85; Ai-92 – 12.25; diesel oil – 11.35; liquified gas – 6.45 leis for a liter.

The reasons of the growth are the excise tax rates which have increased by 50 percent since the beginning of 2010, and the leu’s devaluation.

Knowing about the forthcoming growth of excise tax rates, oil product importers replenished their stocks at the end of the year but with their end and beginning of import with a new excise tax applied, they were forced to increase the prices.

As the last year’s remainders are sold, the price for petrol and diesel oil will grow at all gas filling stations. Experts say the oil products’ price was also affected by the devaluation of the Moldovan leu.

To avoid fuel deficit in the market, the growth of prices for oil products in Moldova may go one if the leu devaluation tendency continues and due to the continuing unstability in global markets: the price of a tone of petrol and diesel oil increased by $30-40 for a week totalling, respectively, $720 and $650 in the PLATT’S market at prices of which fuel is imported to Moldova.

The present rise in prices for oil products is the second since the beginning of 2010; on January 4 they increase on average by 7%. Ai-95 petrol’s price rose by 0.8 lei or 6.7 percent (from 11.9 to 12.7 leis for a liter); diesel oil’s price – by 0.8 lei or 7.5% (from 10.6 to 11.4 leis for a liter). Thus, oil products have become almost 15% more expensive since the beginning of the year.
