Moldova's overall state debt amounted to 14,622.4 billion lei (836 million euros) by 31 December 2009, including the internal debt of 5,104.9 billion lei, according to data by the Finance Ministry.
Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta said that the internal debt hiked by 45.4 per cent compared with the situation in early 2009. The rise was prompted by a significant increase in the number of state bonds issued via tender for 1,145 billion lei and placement of state bonds via subscription for 450 million lei. The obtained proceeds were used to fulfill the state budget law for 2009.
On this period, Moldova's external state debt was 773,700 million dollars, down by about 4.63 million dollars compared with the figure registered on 1 January 2009, Negruta said.
He added that 767.4 million lei was used to pay the external state debt and 629,900 million lei was used to pay the internal state in 2009, Negruta said.
