The Moldovan and Romanian agriculture ministries have signed a joint cooperation plan seeing concrete actions of collaboration in the phyto-sanitary, sanitary, veterinary and rural development sectors.
The document was signed in Bucharest by Moldovan Agriculture and Food Minister Valeriu Cosarciuc and Romanian Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Mihail Dumitru.
Valeriu Cosarciuc told a news conference today that during his recent visit to Bucharest, the sides agreed on a so-called common agricultural platform in order to create conditions for attracting farming investments in the zone covered by the small-distance cross-border movement treaty, i.e. in the zone of about 50 km from the Moldovan-Romanian border.
Cosarciuc said that the two ministries discussed a possibility of processing, if necessary, Moldovan and Romanian agricultural raw material at processing factories located in the border region of Romania, and respectively Moldova.
The Moldovan minister said that, following an initiative by the Romanian Sanitary, Veterinary and Food Safety Agency, experts from Moldova's relevant institution will attend a string of seminars organized within a cross-border project implemented by Romania. Under an agreement, the Romanian Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry is to provide assistance to the Moldovan ministry to adjust the national legislation to the EU standards.
On 5 March 2010, Agriculture and Food Minister Valeriu Cosarciuc paid a visit to Bucharest, where he had meetings with his Romanian counterpart and other decision-makers.
