Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar has participated in the 45th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), recently held in Moscow.
The participants in the two meetings set the priority trends of the economic cooperation within the CIS in 2010, which are correlated with the Commonwealth's economic development strategy till 2020, the Economics Ministry's public relations service has said.
Following an initiative by Russia's representatives, in 2010, the member countries will pay high attention to the elaboration of a new agreement on the CIS countries' free trade zone, modernization of the juridical basis regulating the migration of the labour force in the Commonwealth, integration into the energy sector, enhancement of the economy's energy efficiency, implementation of joint energy programmes, integration into the financial and banking sectors, transport, ensuring the supply of information to research and innovation activities, etc.
Valeriu Lazar stressed that, at the meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Russia put forward a new approach to the interaction within the CIS meant to improve the economic cooperation. The CIS is set to become an attractive structure for its members by giving them the opportunity to integrate at different levels and speeds, in line with the national development priorities.
Valeriu Lazar emphasized that, at present, the main task of regional state unions, such as the CIS and the European Union, is to jointly overcome the impact of the world financial crisis. Therefore, he said, Moldova is to study and turn to account the new instruments of integration into the Commonwealth offered by Russia, so as to strengthen and upgrade its own economic potential, the Economics Ministry's public relations service said.
