The government of Great Britain will allocate 4.5 million pounds sterling for the budget support of the social assistance sector

Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat and the Ambassador Keith Shannon signed the Agreement-Memorandum between the Department for International Development of Great Britain (DFID) and the Moldovan Government on the budget support to the social assistance sector on Thursday, 11th of March. Under the document, the Moldovan Government will receive the 4.5 million pounds sterling grant to be used for compensation of the difference in fees for energy resources to socially vulnerable population as well as for implementation of the new social assistance system. The Ambassador Keith Shannon said the grant would be allocated in two installments.

The first one in the amount of 3.5 million pounds sterling will be allocated right away, while the second one – in the amount of 1 million pounds sterling – after fulfillment of this memorandum’s conditions has been evaluated by the DFID. Keith Shannon said the DFID’s objective was to give assistance to establishment of the sound social assistance system in Moldova and the allocated money would be used for that. Prime Minister Vladimir Filat said the Government would use this assistance to expand the social assistance system and to include more citizens in it. “We undertake to create a sustainable and inclusive system of provision of citizens’ wellbeing taking into consideration their real needs”, Prime Minister said.
