The state debt stood at 17,177.3 billion lei (989 million euros) on 28 February 2010, according to data by the Finance Ministry.
On the same date, the domestic state debt was 5,176.6 million lei, and was fully made up of state securities (VMS), of which: VMS issued by auctions 48.5 per cent; converted VMS 42.8 per cent and state securities placed by subscription 8.7 per cent, Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta said.
The state domestic debt increased by 71.7 million lei or by 1.4 per cent against 1 January 2010. The domestic state debt changed due to a 71.7 million-lei increase in VMS issued by auctions. The money was used to finance measures provided for in the 2010 state budget law, the minister stressed.
At the same time, the state foreign debt was 937.2 million dollars, down by 20.3 million dollars against the figures reported on 1 January 2010. This decrease was caused mostly by a negative fluctuation of the dollar's exchange rate against the other foreign currencies and increase in payments for the basic sum of state foreign loans on the entries of foreign loans, Veaceslav Negruta said.
