Social compensations to be paid starting late this month

Social compensations for the cold season of the year will be paid starting late March-early April, Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Valentina Buliga told a news conference today.

Buliga said that social compensations will be paid to less well-off people having the right to social assistance, employees of budget-paid institutions whose salaries are lower than 700 lei (about 35 euros), beneficiaries of pensions and social allowances worth 700 lei each but who have turned 65.

These people will monthly receive 130 lei for January, February and March. Subsequently, social compensations for November-December 2010 will be paid. People who submitted applications for social assistance will not have to submit applications for social compensations.

About 40,000 families benefiting from social assistance, 76,000 budget-paid employees and 116,000 retirees and beneficiaries of social allowances will receive social compensations. As much as 110 million lei (6.5 million euros) is needed to pay social compensations. The money will be allocated from grants and budget means.

Buliga said that the local public administration may earmark additional assistance to cover compensations for the cold season.
