Prime Minister Vlad Filat today accused the private company Metrompas of fraud while printing fiscal cards, stamps ,etc. to the order of the state enterprise, Registru (Registrar), subordinated to the Information Technologies and Communications Ministry (MTIC). The prime minister brought these charges at today's visit to the state enterprise, Registru.
Vlad Filat said that, what arouses suspicions is that a state enterprise such as Registru appealed to a private printing house and not to one with state capital, and besides, the printing house was not selected by tender. Hundreds of millions of lei were laundered through this printing house so as to excessively increase the production costs. Investigations showed that there were big reserves to cut the costs and supply the citizen with cheap services, the prime minister said.
Vlad Filat told journalists that, as for certain dismissals at the Registru enterprise, the decision is up to the minister. He added that the structure of the state enterprises subordinated to MTIC was given the final touches today. The prime minister said that the process of ministry's re-organisation starts by this fact, including as regards the staff policy.
Asked by journalists to give his opinions on the rumours saying that the former MTIC leadership would have been involved in the falsification of the results of the 5 April 2009 polls, the prime minister said that this fact will be confirmed or refuted after the necessary inquiry is completed.
The prime minister also asked the state enterprise Registru for maximum of transparency as concerns the establishment of the prices for IDs, in the ministry's activity and the field as a whole, which have always been "wrapped in mystery."
Information Technologies and Communications Minister Alexandru Oleinic said the case of the private company, Metrompas, is presently being inquired, and more details are to be made public in the near future. Oleinic added that price cuts are to be made for processing passports with biometric data, due to be massively issued starting with 1 January 2011. He said these costs will be subsequently announced. The minister gave assurances that the company due to print the biometric passports will be designated by common agreement with a special commission, so as to observe a full transparency.
