President Nicolae Timofti today met Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Azubalis, who is on an official visit to Moldova, according to the presidential press service.

President Timofti thanked Audronius Azubalis for the support Lithuania has been providing to Moldova on the EU integration path and in the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict.

Lithuania held the OSCE chairmanship in 2011, when it was decided to resume the official five-plus-two talks on the Transnistrian issue.

Audronius Azubalis pointed up the importance for Moldova to adopt laws agreed upon with the European Union, among which the anti-discrimination law, so that it advances on the path of liberalization of its visa regime with the EU.

The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy said that his country will take over the European Union's Presidency in 2013. He gave assurances that Lithuania is willing to back Moldova from this office as well.

President Nicolae Timofti voiced hope that the Moldovan parliamentary parties will be able to reach consensus to adopt the laws on which the EU visa free regime depends. He reiterated that Moldova will spare no effort to speed up the European integration processes.
