Hundreds of hectares of crops and orchards were damaged and houses flooded in different districts of the country as a result of the heavy rain that fell on May 19 and 20.

Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that 11 houses and 17 yards were flooded in Alexandreni village of Sangerei district alone. Fifty rescuers worked during many hours to reinforce the levee of the local pond that burst. They also pumped the water out in order to prevent more serious floods.

Three houses and four cellars were inundated in Gura-Galbenei, Cimislia. Hectares of sunflower and corn fields were ruined in Putinesti, Floresti and in Libidenco, Cahul. There were also affected several orchards.

Traffic moved with difficulty on Ion Creanga St in Chisinau, where the rainwater drainage wells are blocked. A house located nearby faced the risk of being flooded.

Rain with thunder and lightning was forecast for the next days as well.
