Another 3,200 children will be carried to the district schools by 49 new busses starting from 1 September 2012. The Education Ministry transmitted the newly-bought transport means to the headmasters of the education institutions in the Moldovan districts. About 42 million lei was earmarked from the state budget to this end. During an official ceremony of handing the documents and keys of the transport units, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that since 2009, 109 busses for over 7,200 children from about 150 settlements have been purchased. Over 95 million lei was allotted to buy the school busses. Education Minister Mihail Sleahtitchi noted that the acquisition of the school busses is a key-element of the structural reform in education. They will allow children quickly get to their schools, that will offer all the needed conditions for quality studies, he added. The headmaster of the Ribnita-based theoretical lyceum Evrica, Eugenia Halus, said that the newly-received school bus will allow them better cope with the current situation, when 70 per cent of those 220 pupils are transported from other settlements. Previously, the lyceum has been hiring another transport means to this end, from the proceeds allotted by the Education Ministry. The busses have been bought within the campaign "Hai cu noi la o scoala mai buna" (Come with us to a better school), which is a part of the project "Quality Education in Moldovan Rural Areas", financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Education Ministry.
