There is still area for growth to develop economical co-operation between Estonia and Moldova. This statement has been made by the press office of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after political consultations between Estonian and Moldovan ministries which took place last week in Tallinn.

Mariann Sudakov from the press office of Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told that it is important for Moldova to conclude the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement with EU in order to thicken economical co-operation between the two countries. She added that it is vital for Moldova to improve business environment and to fight against corruption, which will create the needed ground for investor’s trust to arise.

“In those mentioned areas, Moldova has done and continues to do reforms and deserves recognition for that. The relationship between Moldova and Estonia has thickened during the last few years, although there is still enough space to develop economical co-operation between two countries. In addition to the co-operation among state institutions, the co-operation between regions has also been activated. It is positive, because it gives possibility to create direct contacts at different levels”, said Sudakov.

According to Sudakov, Estonia is happy that Moldova has made a clear choice towards Europe-integration. She said that at the moment Moldova is a success story of Eastern Partnership for the reason.

“Moldova had shown by implementing reforms that it takes seriously the EU integration. You should continue the reforms with the same tempo and it is important to explain to your citizens why all the reforms are needed”, she added.

During the Estonian and Moldovan political consultations were also discussed bilateral relations, including political and economical co-operation, as well as culture and education contacts and development co-operation, Moldova’s integration to European Union and Moldovan internal policy, developments in conjunction with Transnistria conflict solutions, regional issues and relations with neighbors.
