Moldovan premier attends Russian embassy's reception

Prime Minister Vlad Filat attended a reception organized by the Russian embassy in Moldova on 12 June on the occasion of Day of Russia, the government's communication and press relations service has reported.

Filat congratulated all Russian citizens on the holiday, pointing up the importance of this event in the history of the country. He wished those present good health, welfare and happiness.

Filat recalled that Moldova and Russia mark the 20th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year and the 10th anniversary of the interstate treaty on friendship and cooperation. The prime minister said that despite difficulties, the two states managed to establish good cooperation relations. He expressed satisfaction with the increasingly intense dynamic of the Moldovan-Russian relations, specifying that there is a huge potential between the two states that needs to be fully used.

Vlad Filat also talked about the strategic partnership between the two countries that should be accompanied by more actions benefiting the two states' citizens. The prime minister also talked about the humanitarian cooperation between Moldova and Russia, referring to the Moldovans working in Russia. He expressed conviction that the problems existing in this sector will be solved as soon as possible.

In his speech, Filat touched upon the process of settling the Transnistrian issue, mentioning that one of the first decrees of Russian President Vladimir Putin focused on the development of negotiations on the Transnistrian conflict and on views on solutions to this problem, which match Moldova's.

Russian Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin talked about the importance of the holiday and prospects for development of the Russian Federation. He welcomed the good relations that his country has with Moldova, noting that Russia is Moldova's top economic partner, with foreign economic operations between the two going up by over 20 per cent in the first five months of 2012 as compared with 2011. Farit Mukhametshin referred to cultural cooperation and to the need to step up economic cooperation.
