The faction of the opposition Party of Communists (PCRM) walked out of the session hall at today's parliament meeting, during which lawmakers held hearings on the press independence and ensuring the freedom of expression in Moldova. The Communists showed discontent with the fact that the MPs of the ruling Alliance for European Integration (AIE) did not back the inclusion of a draft decision on hearings, proposed by the PCRM, on the agenda. At the meeting, the leader of the PCRM faction, Maria Postoico, said the faction she leads worked out a draft law on the hearings, and asked to consider it. "Following the hearings, we should adopt a decision. We elaborated such a draft law, and we demand its examination. Yet, the AIE refuses. Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu applies the provisions of the parliament's regulation disproportionately: he rejects our drafts, while the similar drafts of the AIE are always accepted," Postoico said. At the same time, Marian Lupu said "the PCRM MPs did not observe the legal procedure of proposing legislative initiatives." The PCRM faction left the session hall when the lawmakers were watching video sequences on the way the news was presented at the NIT TV channel. The parliament today carried out parliamentary hearings on the independence of press and ensuring the freedom of expression in Moldova. The PCRM faction proposed this initiative.
