The opposition Party of Communists has requested the dismissal of the leadership of the Audiovisual Coordination Council (CCA) and of the public TV channel Moldova One. The statement was made today by Communist leader Vladimir Voronin.

According to Voronin, the public TV channel Moldova One should broadcast live all the parliamentary sessions and to grant much room to the parliamentary oppositions in the news bulletins.

"Thus, citizens will enjoy the freedom of expressions and will benefit from the right to fair information. The governance showed its anti-democratic nature at the hearings on the independence of press, held last week, by refusing to adopt a decision on the results of the hearings. We demand that the pro-opposition NIT TV channel resume broadcasting, until the court issues a final judgment on the matter and that the CCA leadership be dismissed," Voronin said.

The Communist leader was concerned about the situation in the agriculture field, stating that this issue would be tackled at the PCRM's plenary session due in September. "The country's food safety is jeopardized, while the current leadership focuses on trivial issues," Voronin said.

Moldova One was obliged to suspend the live broadcasts of the parliamentary meetings in 2004 when the Party of Communists was in power. Back then, the Communist MPs described the live transmissions as "inefficient".
