Moldovan Communist MPs seek reports on European fund's management
MPs of the opposition Party of Communists have demanded that Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco and the leadership of the Border Police should report to the parliament on the management of the European funds in Moldova. Addressing the parliament on 5 July, Communist MP Grigore Petrenco said: "Lately, there have been reports about how European money is laundered. We demand a comprehensive report on the matter." The Communists also demanded that Justice Minister Oleg Efrim should report on the situation in the judiciary system. "The court sitting on the [pro-opposition] TV channel NIT case was postponed for September because the jurist of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council and the judge are on leave. We want explanations of how these cases are judged since they are obviously politically grounded," Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu said. The Communists also expressed discontent with the way the parliamentary meetings are organized and demanded that speaker Marian Lupu make order. "The agenda of the plenary sittings is drafted in a hurry, the meetings are interrupted whenever the ruling alliance demands that, the essence of draft laws examined in the second reading is changed, the session hall has turned into a hall for public debates. All these infringements tarnish the parliament's image and destroy its functionality," Communist MP Iurie Munteanu said.
