EBRD is planning to extend a loan of 3 mln. euros for purchase of 23 new trolleybuses for Balti

According to a spokesperson of the permanent office of EBRD in Moldova, the respective resolution is planned to be adopted at a EBRD Board of Directors on September, 18. The total commitment of the project amounts to 4.6 mln. euros. The European Union is going to allot Moldova a grant of 1.6 mln. euros to supplement the EBRD loan. The project, stipulated purchase of new trolleybuses for the Balti trolleybuses fleet, aims to improve quality of services of public conveyances and upgrade the fleet. It will allow raising productivity, reducing maintenance costs and general expenses by reducing energy consumption.

In should be reminded that earlier City Hal of Chisinau purchased 102 trolleybuses from Belcommunmash thanks to funds provided by the European Bank fort Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Union and as a result of a tender. The project on modernization of the public conveniences of Chisinau was valued at 13 mln. euros. EBRD and EIB allotted 5 mln. euros each, with 3 mln. euros being granted by EU. Later City Hall of Chisinau and leaders of Belcommunmash agreed to launch the joint assembly of Belarusian trolleybuses in the capital of Moldova, which was launched this week.
