Over half of the water and sewage piping in the Chisinau Municipality isn’t under the management of Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC), according to a feasibility study regarding the digitalization of water and sewerage networks management, developed by French company Seureca, Info-Prim Neo reports.

“We were surprised to see that we have 5500 km of water and sewage piping in Chisinau. I must say that Apa-Canal manages only 2800 km”, declared ACC director Constantin Becciev during the City Hall operative meeting.

He said that one in two leaks take place in the other sections of piping, and it is ACC’s workers who have to repair them and also ACC covers the expenses. The director brought the example of last week’s leek on Dacia Avenue, where the pipe was under the management of another company, and the leak caused losses of 14,000 lei.

According to Constantin Becciev, a solution to prevent the leaks would be for all the piping to be put under ACC’s management. This would require an order from the Chisinau Municipal Council.

Deputy Mayor of the capital Nistor Grozavu requested the ACC board to prepare a proposal in this regard. He also demanded water leaks to be sorted so that the consumers knew which leaks took place on pipes managed by the municipal utility and which not.
