A Moldovan-Korean Centre of Information and Access opened at the Information Technology and Communications Ministry today. The Korean National Information Society Agency (NIA) provided the centre with cutting-edge equipment and furniture, with the value of the assistance exceeding 200,000 dollars. The centre is a multi-purpose facility which has a conference hall provided with audio/video devices and a system of teleconferences, an IT training laboratory and a hall for public access to high-speed Internet. Information Technology and Communications Minister Pavel Filip said that both civil servants, ICT specialists and ordinary citizens will have access to information and training at the centre. It will be managed by a joint Moldovan-Korean committee and the Korean side will cover the training expenses during four years. Attending the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Vlad Filat reiterated that the Moldovan authorities are set to draft and adjust the legislative framework in order to develop the IT sector, as well as to ease access to IT. Filat announced that the Moldovan government had started the procedure of lifting visas for Korean citizens starting with 2013. Today, Pavel Filip and Korean Deputy Public Administration and Security Minister Seo Pil-Eon signed a memorandum of cooperation in the ICT area. The document provides for support for Moldova in the elaboration of information policies and for technical assistance from South Korea.
