The export of foodstuff is more than its import in Moldova
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the export of Moldovan foodstuff and livestock amounted to a sum of $188.7 mln. in the first half-year of 2012, 13.8% up as compared with the same period of 2011. At the same time, Moldova imported foodstuff and livestock at a sum of $247.8 mln., 5.4% up. According to the National bureau of Statistics, in January-June, 2012 Moldovan exported meat and meat products at a sum of $8 mln., 81.9% up as compared with the same period of 2011 whereas the import of these goods made a sum of $18.6 mln. (+37.5%). The export of dairy and eggs made up $4.4 mln. (-2.2%), whereas their import was $16.9 mln. (+17.6%).
Crops and their derivatives were exported at a sum of $20,2 mln., 51.9% down and imported at a sum of $41.8 mln., (+13.7%); the livestock export amounted to $3.8 mln. 88,3% up, which was equal to its import ( $3.8 mln. and 40.5% up). (+40,5%). One of few items among foodstuff and livestock export exceeded import in monetary terms was the fruit and vegetables. They were exported at a sum of $120.2 mln, 27% up and imported at a sum of $68.6 mln. (-9.6%). The export of sugar, sugar products and honey made up $17.2 mln. (3.5 times up) whereas their import was $9.4 mln. (+86.5%). Coffee, tea, cacao, spices and their derivatives were exported at a sum of $1.7 mln., (+23.8) and imported at a sum of $24.2 mln. (+6.3%). Forage was exported at a sum of $11.9 mln. (+5.2%) and imported at a sum of $8.1 mln. (-11.9%). The export of other foods and additives made up $1.3 mln. (+1.5%), whereas their import was $33.2 mln. (+1.1%). Besides, in January-June, 2012 Moldova imported fish, lobsters and water invertebrate animas at a sum of $23.2 mln. (+5.5%). These items are absent from the list of goods exported from Moldova.
