Moldova's subscription sum to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) grew by 77 million dollars. The parliament approved a draft law to this effect today.

Under the draft, the sum of Moldova's subscription will increase from 132.2 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to 172.5 million SDR, about 77 million dollars, given the revision of the quotas and reform of the IMF Executive Board. A decision was taken to increase the IMF's capital, because of the economic crisis.

The draft's authors said the increase in the capital of the IMF and Moldova's quota will contribute to a rise in the available financial assistance from which Moldova may benefit.

About 25 per cent of Moldova's quota will be transferred at the expense of a special non-refundable and no-interest drawing from the IMF. Another 75 per cent will be paid in Moldovan lei, either by crediting the IMF's account at the National Bank (BNM) or by the Finance Ministry issuing a bill that is to be deposited on the account of the IMF's stocks and shares at the BNM.

The BNM deems it as opportune to increase the quota by crediting the IMF's account, and informs that any payment means will not affect the state budget, and will not increase the public debt.
