The Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova today signed two contracts with the companies that will deal with the reconstruction of the Sarateni-Soroca highway: the Turkish consortium ONUR and the Austrian enterprise Strabag AG. Moldovan Transport and Road Infrastructure Minister Anatol Salaru described the event as "the most important for the country's economy and for the rehabilitation of the road infrastructure." "The road segment that will be put into operation in two years will serve as a quality and safety model," the minister said. "It is the longest-ever road segment restored in Moldova so far," the executive director of the Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova, Valentina Badrajan, said after the signing ceremony. For the reconstruction and modernization of a 93-kilometer-long road segment of the Sarateni-Soroca highway, Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova will allot 92.7 million dollars out of 262 million dollars given by the US Government to Moldova. In the context, Salaru asked Moldovan citizens to display understanding towards the inconveniences triggered by the works. He said that meanwhile, the Transport and Road Infrastructure Ministry is restoring detour roads.
