Agricultural producers have discussed agricultural aspects of the European integration with representatives of the Moldovan government and the European Union. The European Business Association organized the event in Chisinau on 7 June. The head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, said at the opening of the meeting that "the European Union has successfully backed a string of projects aimed at developing the agricultural infrastructure in Moldova's rural areas, and will continue to provide support to a high number of beneficiaries". The EU has appointed two advisers to consult the central authorities in the elaboration of agricultural policies. For his part, Agriculture and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov pointed up the need for the Moldovan farmers to prepare projects in order to obtain EU funds starting from 2014 within the European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development. "A similar programme changed the face of the Romanian agriculture several years ago," the minister noted. Bumacov said that Moldova had taken efforts to make sure that the European funds are assimilated by improving the operation of the Agency of Payments in Agriculture. Referring to the measures taken to comply with the EU standards, he mentioned the recent adoption of the law on food security and the expected adoption of a law on market infrastructure and wine growing.
