In Q1, 2012 Moldova’s export of alcohol products to Russia expressed in monetary terms grew 1.8 times to $14.66 mln
According to the National Bureau o Statistics, it equalled to $8.25 mln. in Q1, 2011. The Russia was the leading importer of wines and cognacs from Moldova in January-March, 2012. Its share made 38% in the total amount of alcohol export of Moldova within that period. In Q1, 2011 Russia bought 24% of all alcohol products exported from Moldova. Largest importers of Moldova cognacs and wines in Q1, 2012 were also Belarus (20,3% of the total amount of the export), Ukraine (16,3%) and Poland (4,6%). Before the wine embargo of 2006, Russia imported about 80% of a total volume of wines, cognacs and sparkling wines from Moldova. For example, in 2005 it bought alcohol products at a sum of $234.92 mln. from Moldova, making 74.8% of its total export, which amounted to $314.26 mln.
