According to amendments to the law approved by the government, the first three days of the sick leave caused by a general disease or an accident not connected with the work will be paid by employers of Moldova; the rest days of the sick leave are to be paid from the social insurance fund. The amendments were introduced in line with the decision of the Constitutional Court, which ruled unconstitutional the governmental decision that the first day of the sick leave had to be paid by employees, the second, third and fourth by employers and all the rest by the state. According to the Minister of Labour, Social insurance and Family Valentina Buliga, putting into practice these amendments will come to 30,7 mln. leis for the social insurance fund. Premier Vladimir Filat pointed out problems in the system of sick leaves certificates and called on the branch ministry to regulate this area more strictly. He charged those responsible to work out proposals and noted that in 2010 alone a total sum of sick leave expenses made up 600 mln. leis and every 100 workers spent on a sick leave 908 days.
