The Ministry of Economy of Moldova announces acceptance of projects to be backed by the Energy Efficiency Fund

This resolution was adopted at a sitting of the Energy Efficiency Fund chaired by the Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar. In 2012 projects will be backed aimed at improving energy efficiently of social public institutions, such as kindergartens, hospitals, schools, etc, as well as project developed by the private sector. The backing will be available from 50 thou. to 3 mln. leis and beneficiaries are to contribute at least 20% of the commitment of the project.

One of the fundamental criteria is maximum efficiency for minimum costs. According to Valeriu Lazar, the Fund will support projects aimed at the development and helping to reduce energy consumption expenses by 30-40%. According to the Minister, this will create demand for economic agents and new jobs. The Energy Efficiency Fund was established to appraise and back energy efficiency and renewable energy projects . Its budget for 2012 makes up 100 mln. leis and will be replenished from the state budget and other sources every year. The fund will provide such financial products as grants, guarantees, loans and leasing. At the sitting participants also discussed a deadline and a procedure of election of Executive Director and President of the Fund.
