Dialogue on abolishing visa regime for Moldovans to be initiated next June

A meeting of the Moldova - European Union Cooperation Council will be held on 15 June 2010, during which a dialogue on the abolition of the visa regime for the Moldovan citizens will be initiated, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said at a today's government meeting.

Vlad Filat also said that the getting of the liberalised visa regime implies the assuming of a string of responsibilities and actions on behalf of the authorities. At the same time, the premier said that Moldova needs a roadmap in the visa regime's liberalisation.

Vlad Filat stressed that the Moldovan authorities will have to make maximum of efforts to fulfill all the measures necessary to benefit from the liberalised visa regime.

The prime minister made the above statement, after a European Commission evaluation mission had paid a 1-3 March visit to Chisinau. At a 2 March meeting with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the head of the Unit of International Aspects of Migration and Visa Policies of the Directorate-General of Justice, Freedom and Security, Joannes De Ceuster, said that aid that the meetings he has had with representatives of different central authorities so far proves that Moldova made its homework.
