Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov today held a news briefing on the outcomes of an informal meeting of 5+2 consultations, conducted in Vienna on 1-2 March 2010, the government's press service has said.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said that the most important aspect is the participants' common decision to resume the 5+2 official negotiations on the political settlement of the Transnistrian conflict this year.
"Official talks on the Transnistrian issue have not been held since 2006, i.e. during four years. Presently, we want to shift from informal meetings to formal ones, as well as to get concrete results after negotiations," the deputy prime minister said.
Victor Osipov highly appreciated the Kazakh OSCE chairmanship, pointing out this country's consistent and ambitious effort. He said that Kazakh Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev is expected to pay a visit to Chisinau next months. Osipov said that the visit will also represent an important subject on the agenda of activities aimed at setting the Transnistrian conflict.
Victor Osipov said that the participants agreed to ensure a systematic character of meetings in the 5+2 format. Thus, the next meeting will be held in Astana in May 2010, and another two meetings are planned to take place in July and October. The participants also discussed some principles of compiling the meetings' agenda. Each side may put forward one subject, which in its opinion, is the most up-to-date problem, and the OSCE mission will consolidate these proposals and will complete the agenda, thus contributing to preparing debates so that they are convergent.
Osipopv reiterated the Moldovan government's constructive and reasonable position on the Transnistria-related objectives and the way they are being achieved. Victor Osipov said that this position was expressed by a recently approved governmental act - the Moldovan government's action programme for 2010, which also contains a chapter on problems of Moldova's reintegration.
