Iurie Leanca, Vladimir Hotineanu and Leonid Bujor today gave up their MP mandates. Also during the plenary meeting, the parliament took notice of the resignation of another five MPs, among whom Vlad Filat, Valentina Buliga, Marcel Raducan, Valeriu Lazar and Ion Lupu.

The decision on the acceptance of the resignation of the above eight lawmakers was passed by majority vote. It is a necessary procedure, as the MPs who are also holding another state offices may act in the parliament only during six months, with the mandates due to expire next April.

Under the legislation, the mandates which remain vacant will be given to the candidate members on the party lists. After the parliament declares the MP mandates' vacancy, the Central Election Commission will consider the candidacy of the aspirant, and will submit it to the Constitutional Court for the mandate's validation.

For its part, the Constitutional Court will validate the next mandate during 30 days after the vacancy of the MP mandate has been declared.
