Prime Minister Vlad Filat today met US Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Asif J. Chaudhry, the government's communications and press relations department has said.
The officials tackled subjects on the Moldovan-American relations and the prospects to boost the bilateral cooperation between the two states.
The prime minister appreciated the ascendant character of the inter-state collaboration. He said that the Compact programme entered into force starting from 1 September 2010. Vlad Filat said that this success is due to a joint effort of the Moldovan and US Governments, in line with the understandings reached in an agreement on grant between the Millennium Challenge Corporation and Moldova in early 2010.
The prime minister showed confidence that the process of Compact programme's implementation will be carried out successfully. He gave assurances that the government will further do its utmost to fulfill the assumed commitments.
Vlad Filat thanked for the assistance given by the USA to alleviate the impact of the floods, specifying that the aid is of real use. The prime minister said that the United States is a friend for Moldova, stressing that the government's acting programme sees the establishment of strategic partnership relations with the USA.
"I am confident that the ties between our countries will continuously develop for the benefit of the citizens," the prime minister said.
The American diplomat appreciated the dynamic of the bilateral relations, emphasizing their ascendant character in the last period. The ambassador reiterated the USA's willingness to further back Moldova on the path of the democratic reforms.
