Prime Minister Vlad Filat today held a meeting with Georgian Deputy Prime Minister Georgy Baramidze, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.

The participants in the meeting discussed the relations between the two states. Filat said that the cooperation between Moldova and Georgia is successful, noting that the development potential should be fully turned to account while implementing new projects in economy and tourism.

Filat and Baramidze exchanged opinions on the achievements recorded by the two states in their European integration process. Filat noted that Moldova has met all the commitments, and is ready to shift to a new stage within the dialogue on visa free regime.

Filat also emphasized the importance of experience exchange in the cooperation within the Eastern Partnership. He also noted that Moldova should take over Georgia's experience in the implementation of some domestic reforms.

Also, Filat thanked Georgia for the provided humanitarian aid in the alleviation of the consequences of floods that hit the country in 2010.

"Thank you for being by our side and for providing the needed support", Filat said.

For his part, Baramidze said that the informal meeting of the foreign ministers from the countries of the Eastern Partnership, held in Chisinau, served as a good dialogue and cooperation platform.

Baramidze also noted that Moldova and Georgia are European states, despite of the fact that they are not members of the European Union yet. He added that sooner or later, all the needed reforms will be carried out, and the countries will become EU members. Thus, the citizens will enjoy the freedom offered by the EU.

"There is no other alternative for us. We are European states, and our future lies within the EU. The process has been started and there is no point of return", Baramidze said.

Baramidze praised the achievements recorded by Moldova in the settlement of the Transnistrian problem, and voiced hope that a solution in this respect would be identified as soon as possible.
