A high-level meeting took place in Germany's Rottach-Egern on 20 June on the sidelines of the conference "Promoting confidence-building measures in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process" organized by the OSCE. Vlad Filat and Yevgeniy Shevchuk discussed possible ways of developing the economic, social, humanitarian and other sectors, the government's communication and press relations department has reported. The participants in the meeting positively appreciated the intensification of direct dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol. They praised: the resumption of meetings of the working groups in charge of confidence-building measures, the restoration of the freight train traffic via the Transnistrian region, the facilitation of people's movement during the Easter holidays, the joint organization of the vacation of 200 children from both banks of the Dniester in summer camps in 2012, and the cancellation of the fee on Moldovan goods aimed at stepping up trade ties. The sides agreed to continue working to resume traffic across the Dniester river near the villages Bicioc and Gura Bicului, which will make it possible to open up an international transport corridor. They examined prospects for re-launching urgently additional passenger trains via Tiraspol to Rostov, Moscow, St Peteresburg [Russia] and Chernitsi [Ukraine], etc. The sides analyzed developments in the implementation of protocol agreements on the complete resumption of the freight train traffic on 30 March 2012. They pointed to the need to detail the export and import procedures and to ensure stable freight train traffic on a regular basis. The sides expressed willingness to improve the mechanisms of fulfilling the agreements reached in this sector. The resumption of the road cargo and passenger traffic was broached as well. It was said that the settlement of these issues on the basis of cooperation principles that should be coordinated and mutually advantageous will be a significant step towards the normalization of relations as regards the free movement and will create pre-requisites for bolstering confidence and solving other important issues.
