Prime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in the inauguration of an ordinary meeting of the heads of the diplomatic and consular missions of Moldova, held in Chisinau on 18-20 July, the government's communication and press relations department has reported. In his speech, Vlad Filat said that he appreciates the organization of this event, as this is an opportunity to assess the present situation, as well as to set plans for future. "Many of you have been representing our country for more than two years. And in this respect, you have an extremely important mission - to create a new type of diplomacy for Moldova. You have been appointed as ambassadors, as we have full confidence in your capacity to represent and promote the country's interests. Nonetheless, I want to warn that this full trust implies also great expectations both on behalf of the citizens and the government," Vlad Filat said. The prime minister said that a priority in the diplomatic activity resides in the representation and providing of necessary assistance to the Moldovans who stay abroad. "The way these citizens perceive the entire Moldovan government and the changes taking place in the country most directly depend on your ability to work in accordance with the expectations of our citizens," Vlad Filat said. In this context, the prime minister referred to the institutionalization of the relation with the citizens from abroad, stressing that actions were started to set up a body due to deal with the relations with the diaspora. Vlad Filat noted that an important element in the diplomatic work deals with the promotion of the economic interests - attracting foreign investments into Moldova, as well as the promotion of exports. "An important objective of the government is the European integration of Moldova. The promotion of the agenda of Moldova's integration into the EU represents one of your basic tasks," the prime minister said. Vlad Filat referred also to a summit of the Eastern Partnership, due in Vilnius in November 2013, and its importance for Moldova. The prime minister specified that, until then, Moldova is set to complete the implementation of the phase II of the plan on visa regime liberalization and the talks on the creation of the free trade area with the EU. The prime minister also touched upon the messages conveyed by diplomats, highlighting that they should be strictly in line with Moldova's interests. "Moldova needs a more dynamic and more active foreign policy, that is to yield results felt by each citizen," the prime minister said. The agenda of the ordinary meeting of the heads of the Moldovan diplomatic and consular missions includes topic-related sittings, during which subjects on the role of the diplomatic missions in the promotion of foreign policy interests will be discussed. Among these topics, there are the European integration process, efforts for Moldova's reintegration, consular assistance for Moldovan citizens from abroad, promoting exports and attracting investments, parliamentary component of the foreign policy, etc. Also, within the meeting, the heads of the diplomatic missions will meet the Moldovan leadership, heads of ministers and MPs.
