The Romanian presidency will send about 200 tons of humanitarian aid to Moldovan flood victims via this country's presidency, the presidential press service has said.

Romanian President Traian Basescu announced the decision during a telephone conversation with Moldovan acting President Mihai Ghimpu on 29 August.

Basescu said that the aid, which includes 110 tons of wheat, 60 tons of wheat flour and 30 tons of sunflower oil, would be conveyed to Moldova by 10 TIR lorries on 2 September 2010.

Ghimpu thanked Traian Basescu and the Romanian people for their assistance and gave assurances that all the goods sent would be distributed to flood victims as soon as possible.

Mihai Ghimpu also said that the assistance sent by the Romanian presidency came as significant support for the flood-hit families who lost their houses, as well as the wealth they had collected.

This is the second large-scale consignment of humanitarian aid that Romania offers to Moldovan flood victims after a large batch of construction materials entered Moldova following a 9 July telephone conversation between Mihai Ghimpu and Traian Basescu.
