Moldovan premier participates in festivities dedicated to beginning of new school year

Prime Minister Vlad Filat today participated in festivities dedicated to the beginning of the new school year, which took place in the schools of the Nemteni, Obileni and Leuseni villages, the government's communications and press relations department has said.

More children from the settlements which suffered in the wake of the last summer floods were distributed to study at these institutions. Seventy seven children from flood-hit families study at the Nemteni gymnasium, of whom 11 are from the Cotul Morii village. Fifty one children from the Sarateni village and 33 from the Cotul Morii village were distributed to study in the school from Obileni. Thirty eight children from the flood-hit settlements will study at the lyceum from the Leuseni village.

In his congratulatory speech to the children, parents and teachers, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that he wanted to necessarily be beside the children and teachers affected by the floods on this day.

"There was a summer of great challenges, with which we coped. We proved that we can overcome the problems by unity. The villages of Cotul Morii, Nemteni, Obileni and Sarateni remained in my soul forever, and I promise that we will be together in the long run as well," Vlad Filat said.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts made by the administration and communities from the concerned settlements, teachers so as to prepare the pre-school and school institutions for the new academic year.

Vlad Filat wished the children have a good year, during which they are to gain more knowledge, and to teachers - hard-working children and as good as possible conditions for work.

At discussions with teachers, the prime minister stressed that the education represents a priority for the government. He said that a proof in this respect is also increases of salaries which have been made so far. Vlad Filat said that the teachers' wages will increase by another 25 per cent in 2011.

The prime minister made a personal donation to the schools from Nemteni, Obileni and Leuseni, made up of ten computers for each institution and necessary furniture to arrange computer rooms.

The prime minister also talked with citizens from flood-hit settlements. He said that the residents will be supplied with dwellings till the beginning of the cold season.
