In order to heat enclosures, the Chisinau Zoo garden administration has prepared electric generators, Deputy Director Sergiu Pinzaru said to your Infotag correspondent.

“For the first time, we enter the winter with a triple heating system. These are different types of heaters that work based on electricity, a gas system, as well as one prepared generators in case of sudden power line de-energizing or gas supply disconnection”, he said.

Pinzaru said that on the threshold of winter, Zoo workers as usual divided the animals into 2 groups – heat-loving and not. Besides 19 camels, the last group includes a snow leopard, a lynx, and Zoo’s pride – a couple of tigers, Roxana and Genghis.

“If one does not take into account some small problems like freezing water taps, animals endure cold perfectly on the whole”, the zoo representative said.

The Chisinau Zoo marked its 34 anniversary. Its collection includes 844 animals of 155 species, 115 of which are protected by the Red List of Threatened Species. The nearest zoo gardens to the Moldovan capital one are situated in Odessa (Ukraine) and Bucharest (Romania).
