The Prosecutor's General Office (PG) has stated that it did not demand that several lawmakers of the opposition Party of Communists, who participated in the anti-government protest rallies in February 2012, be stripped of their parliamentary immunity, as Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu, said on 30 May. According to the prosecutors, the concerned lawmakers can be subjected to disciplinary sanctions in the parliament, in line with the legislation in force. The head of the PG's Criminal Prosecution and Methodical Assistance Control Department, Ruslan Popov today told a news conference that the information on a note allegedly submitted by the Prosecutor's General Office, advocating the need to lift the parliamentary immunity of some PCRM members, is false. "Initially, the actions of all the lawmakers and civilians involved in the protest rallies were examined under criminal aspects. Yet, no criminal cases have been opened, as no legal infringements were found," Popov said. He added that since the MPs' actions are stipulated in the special provisions of the Law on the MPs' status and of the Parliament's regulation, the relevant bodies decided to apply special norms and to examine their actions on the basis of these legislative acts.
