Euro 2012 Township in downtown Chisinau may accept up to 10,000 fans

A football township assembled in the central Chisinau square for broadcasting the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship (Euro 2012) games will allow over 10,000 fans enjoying matches online on big screens. The statement was made by Artur Sukhikh, producer of the Bis-Concert company, at a press conference on Thursday.

Sukhikh said that about 2,000 seats are installed in the square; in order to avoid incidents, the township territory will be patrolled by police and private security officers.

Sergei Pirozhkov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Moldova, said that Ukraine considers it an honor to hold the European football championship, as far as competitions of such level are held in Eastern Europe for the first time.

“On this occasion, the Embassy decided to build sport townships not only in Ukraine, but also in Moldova to let amateurs of these great games enjoy the viewing in comfortable conditions, among fans from diverse countries”, Ambassador Pirozhkov said.

Marcin Nosal, representative of the Polish Embassy to Moldova, said that Euro 2012 is an important event that Poland took most seriously.

According to Nosal, sport townships have been built in Poland long ago; this is why, the Embassy decided to take a part in building such township in Chisinau.

Victoria Musteata, spokesperson of the Orange Moldova mobile operator, said, said the company considers the European Championship an important event for many thousands football supporters of Moldova; therefore, Orange Moldova will be glad to sponsor the football township building in the central square.

Alexander Talmatsky and Andrei Khominsky – representatives of the Carlsberg Company [beer producer] – said the company will do all possible to allow football fans enjoy football matches in full with a glass of beer that will be sold there.

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said he hopes that broadcasting such high-level events will be held as often as possible; and when good stadiums will appear in Chisinau, the situation with holding sport events will not be so problematic.
