Timofti said that the increase in judges' salaries should trigger a rise in the degree of responsibility of the judges. The head of state also said that relevant bodies should check the judges' incomes. The chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mihai Poalelungi, said that it was difficult for judges to work with their current low salaries. He said that the situation would change once a draft law on salaries for judges, which is being worked out by the Justice Ministry, is passed. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the strategy of reforming the judiciary sector provides for a three-fold increase in the salaries of judges by the end of the reform's implementation. It was for the first time that Moldova's top leadership participated in the annual General Assembly of Judges.
