Moldovans hope politicians will improve living conditions - opinion poll
The head of the Moldovan Association of Sociologists and Demographers Victor Munteanu said that people expect that the politicians will improve their living conditions. The Moldovan Association of Sociologists and Demographers (ASDM) today presented a synthesis of five sociologic surveys carried out in 2008-2012. According to the poll, 63 per cent of Moldovans believe that things are going in a wrong direction in Moldova and 65 per cent out do not trust the reforms implemented by the current government. The citizens blame the current leadership and the opposition, to an equal extent, for their problems. As for the social-political institutions, the confidence in church is swiftly decreasing. Yet, it still holds the first position, with over 74 per cent of pros. About 56 per cent of those polled trust the local media. The third position that has usually been held by the National Army went to the local public authorities, trusted by 45.6 per cent of people. Among the less credible institutions are the national justice and the trade unions, with 18 per cent each and the political parties, with 14 per cent. According to the survey carried out on 1-10 June, about 69 per cent of Moldovans are concerned about the increase in prices, 57 per cent of the citizens are dissatisfied with the low salaries and pensions and about 43 per cent expressed concern about the future of their children. The poll also pointed up the development of the internet as an information source in Moldova, increasing from 13 per cent in 2008 to 39 per cent in 2012. Thus, internet ranks third, being outstripped by television, which is favoured by 83 per cent of respondents and radio with 62 per cent. The margin of error of the survey stands at +/- 2.6 per cent.
