Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, lawmakers, cabinet members and ordinary people today morning donated blood in central Chisinau, on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day. "I do not have some special feelings, except the joy that someone will benefit from this dose of blood, which perhaps, will save the life of human being," Lupu told journalists. He added that he has been donating blood annually since 2010 within this campaign meant to "raise the awareness of society on a vexing and pressing need". After donating blood at a mobile centre on the square of the Stefan cel Mare public garden, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that he did not prepare in a particular way for this. He added that he was feeling good. "It is a gesture that might be of real help for someone in need. We should donate blood more often," the leader of the senior coalition partner Liberal Democratic Party said. Health Minister Andrei Usatii said that the number of blood donors has increased 10-fold over the past 10 years. "We fully meet the needs of the Moldovan medical institutions after the modernization of the Blood Transfusion Centre and after a 20-fold increase in plasma production," the minister said.
