Under the Moldovan government's instruction No. 1144-463 of 8 June 2012, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry, via the Bologna-based Consulate, assessed the humanitarian assistance needed by the Moldovan citizens who suffered in the wake of the earthquakes that hit northern Italy, the government's communication and press relations department has said. Thus, by this date, earthquake-hit Moldovans received 21 travel documents and proxies free of charge. The documents were issued in the Italian disaster-hit region, in the presence of the consular service's employees. The victims also received tents, foldaway tables and chairs, lanterns, launders, hygiene items, medications, etc. At the next meeting, the government will take a decision to earmark 220,000 lei (about 14,500 euros) from its reserve fund to the Bologna-based Moldovan consulate, which will provide material assistance to Moldovan nationals who suffered in the wake of the disaster. The government closely monitors the situation and keeps in touch with Moldovans residing there and with the local decision-makers in order to intervene, if necessary.
