Iurie Bolboceanu, MP of the Democratic Party, has proposed authorities to punish motorists smoking while driving.
The legislative initiative provides for 2,000-3,000 lei fines for motorists smoking in personal cars if they transport minors under age 16 or pregnant women.
The draft law was submitted for consideration to parliamentary committees. According to the author, the initiative aims to protect children and pregnant women from hazardous consequences of passive smoking that may lead to diverse diseases. In conformity with the MP’s data, toxin concentration in transports with smokers may exceed the respective rate in bars, for example, by 11 times.
According to statistics, motorists smoking while driving are subjected to road accident risk as they are less attentive to road condition.
