A large fire erupted at the Chisinau Waste Water Treatment Station on a settling reservoir due to extreme temperatures, the water utility ACC reported.

It took firefighters several hours and 6 tonnes of water to put out the flames. No casualties were reported.

The fire burned only waste, mainly plastic materials, without affecting any installations. According to the intervention crews, the fire posed no threat to settlements nearby and didn't contaminate the environment.

With a yellow-coded heat advisory in place until July 6, ACC promises to constantly monitor the situation. The utility also recalled that such fires are not uncommon and that they mostly occur in the summer.
