The holders of Soviet-type passports might be obliged to process IDs. Two Liberal Party (PL) MPs have recorded an initiative to this end. Christian orthodox believers slammed the draft. The initiative, which sees that all the citizens holding Soviet-type passports will be obliged to process IDs till 1 July 2013, belongs to the Liberal lawmakers Valeriu Munteanu and Ion Hadirca. They said the concerned draft law "will put right a juridical gap, and will normalize the administrative processes of recording the residents, in order to facilitate the European integration." The jurist of the Metropolitan See of Moldova, Elena Bitca, has told MOLDPRES that, in general, the believers do not oppose this draft law. Bitca noted that they are only angry about the fact that the draft does not stipulate an alternative for those over 2,700 believers having Soviet-type passports, and who do not want to process barcode IDs on religious grounds. "We demand that the MPs provide for a note, in which the validity term of the Soviet-type IDs is extended for those 2,700 believers unless a legal alternative is found," Bitca stressed. The jurist said the subject of IDs was discussed during a meeting at the headquarters of the Metropolitan See of Moldova today. Asked by journalists to comment on the Liberals' initiative, the leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM), Vladimir Voronin, said it is good for the citizens to hold IDs of the same type. Yet, those who do not want to have IDs, cannot be obliged to process them, Voronin added.
