This resolution was passed by members of the Parliament before their summer recess. Wine Day traditionally was celebrated on the second Sunday of October.
According to Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov, the new date was established at the request of winemakers because as the experience showed, since 2002 the second Sunday of October has been rainy and cold, which contributed little to the fest.
Besides, it was quite often when National Wine Day concurred with the day of tutelar saint of Chisinau which is kept on October, 14. Celebrating National Wine Day on another date is expected to exclude its concurrence with Chisinau Day, avoid bad weather, make the fest more effective and attract more guests and foreign tourists.
