Meeting of heads of diplomatic, consular missions held in Chisinau

A three-day meeting of the heads of the diplomatic and consular missions was held in Chisinau on 18-20 July. The participants assessed the progress recorded by Moldova in the foreign policy and set new tasks for the further prospects, according to the Foreign and European Integration Ministry's information and press relations service.

A special attention was paid to considering the issues related to the interaction between the Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic missions, to the fulfillment of the European integration goals, the cooperation promotion within the international organizations and in the bilateral plan, the Transnistrian conflict settlement issue, the activities in the consular field and the diaspora support and the promotion of the economic diplomacy.

Attending the meeting were President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu, Deputy Premier, Foreign and European Integration Minister Iurie Leanca. They appreciated the activity of the diplomatic and consular missions, set new tasks before the diplomatic service. At the same time, they approached the existence of certain deficiencies which surpassing will allow increase of efficiency in promoting the national interests in the foreign plan in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian sectors.

The embassy staff was informed about the reform process in Moldova by Deputy Premier, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar, Justice Minister Oleg Efrim, Agriculture and Food Minister Vasile Bumacov and Defence Minister Vitalie Marinuta. Deputy Premier for Reintegration Eugen Carpov unveiled a report on the current stage and the prospects for the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. The parliamentary dimension of the foreign policy was considered within a dialogue with the parliament's leadership and the members of the parliamentary commission for foreign policy and European integration.

The participants in the seminar - the MAEIE leadership and the heads of the diplomatic and consular missions emphasized the utility of such meetings being traditional not only in Moldova, but in many other states of the world, streamlined to increase the capacity of the diplomatic service in the promotion of the national interests in the foreign plan and to contribute to creating conditions favourable for the social and economic development, advance of the modernization process and the assurance of decent living conditions for all the citizens of the country.
