Mayors of some villages from the districts of Anenii Noi, Orhei, Rezina, Soldanesti, Cantemir, Leova and Ungheni signed cooperation memorandums with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on connecting the pre-school institutions to the biomass heating systems. UNDP Moldova said in a press release that "this is the fourth group of districts where the Energy and Biomass Project was launched". Until 2014, all the Moldovan districts will be covered, following that 130 rural public institutions should be connected to the biomass heating. The setting up of the biomass heating systems will start in the settlements in September 2012, and will last six months on average. The Energy and Biomass Project in Moldova, implemented in 2011-2014, is estimated at 14.56 million euros, of which 14 million euros is offered by the European Union and the rest by UNDP.
